BEHIND "W IS FOR WALL"

When I began reviewing all my photographs in order to decide what to put in this months aspect ratio I first collected a bunch of images of Walls, Window Displays, and Signs—it had occurred to me that a lot of images we see are of things that were designed by an artist or designer for the very purpose of being seen and noticed and thus photographed. My first concept was thus photos of things designed to be photographed. But as my research continued I came upon a very interesting website A Symposium about Walls that was an exploration about the meaning, origins and uses of walls, with links to quotes, poems, and songs about walls, as well as some very interesting academic papers on the subject. It was then that my focus narrowed to images of walls. —MAX
